Former US President Donald Trump posted on “Facebook” and “YouTube”, Friday, for the first time since his accounts were suspended two years ago, following the attack by his supporters on the US Congressional Building (Capitol).
“I’m back!” the former Republican leader, who is seeking to run for a second term in 2024, wrote alongside a 12-second video clip of his victory speech after the 2016 election, in which he says, “Sorry to keep you waiting – complicated business.”
And the social media platform, “YouTube”, affiliated with Google, said that it had lifted the restrictions imposed on Trump’s channel, after a suspension that lasted more than two years, following the riots at Congressional Headquarters on January 6, 2021.
“We carefully assessed the continuing risks of real-world violence while balancing voters’ opportunities to hear equally from key national candidates in the run-up to the election,” YouTube wrote in a tweet.
Meta Platforms restored Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts earlier this year. Elon Musk, the new owner of Twitter, also restored the former president’s account on the popular social media platform last November.
Trump can now enjoy access to key political fundraising tools and connect with his 146 million followers in total across the three major technology platforms as he seeks to run again for president in 2024.
