Darwin Nunez, Liverpool striker, will not be able to participate with Uruguay in their next two friendlies due to injury.
The 23-year-old Nunez was called up earlier in the Uruguay national team’s list for the friendly matches scheduled against Japan and South Korea on March 24 and 28, respectively, but the Uruguay and Liverpool federations announced that Nunez would not participate with the national team in the two matches. Reports in Uruguay said that Nunez, the former Portuguese Benfica player, was recovering from an ankle injury he suffered during the match that ended in Liverpool’s 1-0 defeat by Real Madrid in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16.
Nunez scored 14 goals and assisted four other goals during 33 matches in his first season with Liverpool, and only Egyptian star Mohamed Salah surpasses him in that, and the Uruguay list saw Club America striker Jonathan Rodriguez summoned to replace Nunez.
